| I was born and raised in Dayton and am currently 18 years old. I came to music when I was maybe 4 or 5 through Elvis. It was too long ago to really say how I found Elvis, but I clearly remember buying Elvis trading cards and listening to cassettes. |

In my teens I was into bands like Led Zeppelin and was able discovered other bands, digging backwards, until I came to the early blues and folk recordings of the 20's and 30's. I sort of view music as this big web of influences and I think the reason Im able to do what I do is because of my awareness of this web. When I play a song I try to embody all of my influnces, letting a little bit of each show. |
| I took up guitar maybe 4 years ago and song writing maybe 2 1/2. Aside from guitar and harmonica I also play banjo and piano. For awhile I taught guitar lessons, but now I mostly focus on my playing. I just finished recording my first album which should be out later this year. The timing of winning this contest couldn't have been better.. |
