In September, 2006, we began posting the Codified Ordinances of Springfield - without the cooperation of the city - because we believe that they have a place on the internet. We were copying them at the library, then coming back to the office to transcribe them. We got as far as Chapter 171 when we received notice that the City was posting the ordinances on their site. However, they have posted them as .pdf documents, which makes them not searchable and more difficult for the average citizen to access.
We would like to continue with this project, however there would be difficulties in keeping them current. The city has ended their practice of notifying attorneys and other interested parties about changes to the Codified Ordinances. We are still evaluating our position on this matter.
What we have transcribed so far is listed below. For the complete and current ordinances (in .pdf format), visit http://www.ci.springfield.oh.us/govt/ordinance.html.
