Henry W. Roberts

Henry W. “Hank” Roberts, 80, of Springfield died Friday, November 20, 2009 in his residence. He was born on February 4, 1929 in Winchester, Mass, the son of Henry and May (Townsend) Roberts. Hank served in the USMC during World War II and Korea as a Staff Sgt. He was a 1952 graduate of Wittenberg and loved attending the football and basketball games. Hank had been employed at Duplex Mill, was a VP at Sweet Manufacturing, and in 1979 purchased the Dairy Queen on Home Road and owned it until 1992. He was a member of the Christ Episcopal Church since 1958, where he served as Senior Warden, Sunday school teacher, and a host of others positions, St Andrews Lodge #619 F & AM. past president and secretary-treasurer of the Springfield Clark County Shrine Club, American Legion Post #362, past Associate Advisor of Explorer Post #6, and was a coach and past president of the Clark County Little League.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife of 56 years Rena Roberts in 2006.

His survivors include his fiancé and best friend Martha Chaney, son Jeffrey Roberts and his daughter Jan Roberts both of Houston, Texas, daughter and son-in-law Jennifer & Stephen Lasky, their children Ryan Lasky both of Willis, Texas and Ashley Clawson of Springfield, two sisters D. Jean & Ernest Jackson of Inverness, FL and Shirley M. & Milton Carpenter of Peoria, AZ, several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends may call Monday from 2-4 & 6-8 pm in the RICHARDS, RAFF & DUNBAR MEMORIAL HOME.

A memorial celebration of Hank’s life will be Tuesday at 11:00 am at Christ Episcopal Church with Rev. Charlotte Reed officiating.

A bereavement dinner to follow the service in the parish hall.

Burial to follow in Rose Hill Burial Park with military honors provided by the Marine Corp League.
