Melvin H. Staggs

Melvin H. Staggs, 86, of Springfield died Thursday, April 24, 2008 in the Summersville at Fox Run.

He was born in Adams County, Ohio on September 20, 1921, the son of Charles and Ola Mae (Rothwell) Staggs.

Melvin retired from WPAFB as a vehicle operator with 31 years of service. He served his country in the US Army during World War II in the 96th Infantry Division known as the Deadeye’s, receiving a Purple Heart. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 8437 George Rogers Clark and the AMVETS.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother and one sister; and his wife Margaret E. Staggs.

His survivors include four daughters Shirley & Steve Coy of Fairfield Glade, TN, Marsha & George Demory of South Vienna, Sharon & Roy James of Heidelberg, MS, and Rhonda Staggs of Tampa, FL; three sons Kenneth & Jan Staggs of Springtown, TX, Thomas & Lisa Staggs of Riverside, and Michael Staggs of Springfield; sixteen grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Monday at 2:00 PM in the RICHARDS, RAFF & DUNBAR MEMORIAL HOME with Rev. Orbie Estep officiating. A gathering of friends and family will be one hour prior to services. Burial to follow in Enon Cemetery.
