There are dozens of people who contribute their time and talents to the betterment of Springfield High. As they receive no material reward for their services, it was decided that such people should be eligible as members in an honorary club. Star and Chevron is this club. Chevrons and stars are awarded according to the number of hours work done (with the representative speakers during the fall initiation). Shown here are a few of the members who have over four hundred hours credit.
Don Morris, Bryer Chynoweth, and Chrystal Ellis were the 1950 delegates to the American Legion-sponsored Buckeye State, which was held in Columbus in June. IN order to gain more detailed knowledge of the functions of state government both Boys' State and Girls' State elect among themselves officials who assume, for the duration of the session, the duties of the office to which tehy have been elected. City officials are also elected with duties corresponding to such a position.
In the picture Bryer, who had been elected to the office of mayor, is explaining her various responsibilities. She will also probably show the boys her informal snapshots, which prove that she had a wonderful time as well as that she learned a great deal.
Don was elected State Auditor; and Chrystal, the President of the City Council. All three will agree that it was an exciting and unforgettable experience which they would like to participate in all over again.
