Golf



Springfield High Golfers, coached by Jim McDonald, had a very successful 1950 season. They won 6 out of the 8 matches in which they engaged, being defeated only by dayton Wilbur Wright and Hamilton. They also won first place in the Greater Ohio League.



Springfield High linkemen standing are: Coach Jim McDonald, Lamar Kilgore, Bob Hulzinger, Jack Helmer, and Bob Wing. Kneeling are: Bob Burton, Louis Meeks, Ronald Manley, and Bill Graham.


 
Tennis



Members of the 1950 tennis squad included: first row, Bill McKaig, David Bodenberg; second row, John Van Why, Bill Goettman, Harvey Richison. It was a successful season with eight matches won and only one lost.

At the right Bill Goettman is congratulated by Mr. Pearson, tennis coach, upon receiving a trophy for second place in District singles which entitled him to play in the State Tourney. Below, Bill Shingledecker, Bruce Oberlin, and Harvey Richison prepare for the 1951 season.

The 1950 baseball team had a bad season winning 4 and losing 10. They were defeated 11 to 6 in 8 innings by Middletown in the finals of the Greater Ohio League finals. They won their way into the finals by defeating Lima South 3-1 as Dick Shatto pitched a one hitter. Shatto was the leading pitcher of the team, winning 3 and losing 3. "Boo" Ellis was the leading hitter of the team with an average of .412.
