Our Ten Outstanding Seniors

Springfield High School Class of 1951

Mary Brooks
Mary Brooks
Any girl who can carry out all the requirements for a college preparatory course and pad it out with the essentials from the Home Ec department plus enough Commerical to qualify for an office job should wear hornrimmed specs and carry a briefcase. Not Mary! She's dainty, pert and definitely feminine in those stylish little numbers she whips up herself.
Efficient chairman of Junior Red Cross and member of the Yearbook Staff, she still found time for dramatics and secretaryship of the French Club. She made National Honor Society and was elected City Commissioner on Youth Government Day. Her class voted her the "girl most likely to succeed". Recipient of the Josten Citizenship Award for girls and the Philirenean Scholarship, she plans a future in fashion designing.
One look at Steve and it's evident that she might well be named the "Sweetheart of the Class of '51'". Friendly, pretty, sweet and active, she has packed plenty of good times and good work into her SHS life. She was secretary of the Senior Class and secretary of Boosters' Club. Yearbook Staff, Friendship, French Choir, El Som Council, and Girls' Council indicate just a few of the demands on her time. She plans to use her Hi-Y-Friendship-Jobs' scholarship to enter Michigan State in the fall. "Pretty is as pretty does" and Steve scores on both counts. Stephanie Stiles

Roger McClure
Roger McClure
During his senior year, "the Redhead" and Boosters' Club have become practically synonymous. He played a heavy part in the Orchestra, the Band, and the Dance Band — trumpet, to be exact. His outstanding work as Boosters' Club president won for him an Optimist Coub Award, the most hours of service in Star and Chevron, and the American Legion Citizenship Award. A likeable, clean-cut type, Roger got things done with a minimum of whip-cracking.
Jack's friendliness won over many of his fellow classmates. To SHS he gave many hours of service and gave it wholeheartedly. Outstanding was his work as football manager. Often he would leave the books for more exciting escapades — resulting in far more friends than credits. His ready smile was always his answer to requests for his time and energy as he accepted jobs and did them well. Jack Brown

Better known to her schoolmates as "Burr", this gal achieved many honors at Springfield High. To Girls' State and Homecoming attendant you may add National Honor Society and Yearbook Staff. She divided the rest of her time between Spanish Club, El Som Council, Friendship, FTA, and Vocal Ensemble.
She plans to put her Girls' Council scholarship to work for her at Ohio State where she will study elementary education.
