Ask the Mayor

Your Government in Action

March 15, 2006

Marina Lyons of Springfield asks,

"My name is Marina Lyons. I live in Springfield,Ohio. I go to Catholic Central Elementary. I'm in 6th grade, and I'm 12 years old. I'm writing to you because of all the litter we have in are streets. it's really concerning me. I see at least 500 of pieces of trash a day, maybe more! PLEASE help me do something about this. Solving this problem would really mean a lot to me, and it would make our streets more attractive. I was thinking about opening a sercive called " The Kids Trash Program." This program would ask kids and thier parents to pick up trash on any day of the week for a hour and a half. I hope this would encourage the kids to realize how important it is not to litter, and how much poeple do litter. Thank you for your time to read this letter. I hope you will write back to me very soon about the concern I had."

Mayor Copeland replies,

"Like you, litter frustrates me very much. I try to pick it up as much as I can. Anything you can do would be great. I like your idea for "The Kids Trash Program." I encourage you to do that. If I can help, let me know. Thanks for your interest in making Springfield better.
