Ask the Mayor

Your Government in Action

February 7, 2007

Dave of Springfield asks,
"During the proposed annexation of part of Springfield Township recently they held a meeting in which residents got to voice their oposition. At this meeting the question was asked "where are the represenatives from Spfld. Township?" No-one knew, they just were not there. After the annexation idea was put on hold a meeting of the Spfld. Township took place in which the represenatives said they were told by the city not to attend. Did Spfld. city tell township reps. not to attend? If so why? "

Mayor Copeland replies,
"Not that I know about. I certainly did not. I thought the paper said that they were advised by their attorney that they had no role to play. I have little direct knowledge about this whole matter, because I have not been an advocate one way or the other.

Warren Copeland "
On February 19, Mayor Copeland replied again,
"As I indicated I had no such conversation with Springfield Township Trustees. I have checked with top City staff. They say they had no such conversation either. Thanks for asking. Rumors have been pretty wild on this matter.

Warren Copeland "
