Ask the Mayor

Your Government in Action

February 7, 2007

Joe of Springfield asks,
"This morning (2/7/07) I noticed a car approaching a major intersection at approximately 20mph. The intersection did not appear to have been plowed or salted. The traffic light turns yellow, the brakes flash and the car begins to "fish-tail" into the intersection and as the car continues the traffic camera flashes. In bad road conditions and situations like I just mentioned, does the person still get the ticket or is the court lenient in these type of situations?"

Mayor Copeland replies,
"I do not know if this situation has come up before. I will look into it. They do have films that should confirm what happened. If what you describe happened, I would agree that the driver should not get a citation. "
