About Springfield

Springfield is located in West Central Ohio, on U.S. 40, U.S. 68, State Route 41 and State Route 72. Interstate Route 70 brushes our southern city limits. Along Interstate 70, we are approximately 60 miles east of the Indiana state line, and approximately 40 miles west of Columbus. We are about 24 miles from Dayton, about 75 miles from Cincinnati and about 175 miles from Cleveland.

Springfield covers about 22.5 square miles.Our July, 2004 population was 63,609

Springfield is the seat of Clark County. The population of Clark County in 2000 was 144,742. Also located within Clark County are the city of New Carlisle and the villages of Catawba, Enon, New Carlisle, South Charleston, South Vienna and Tremont City. The village of Clifton is located partly in Clark County and partly in Greene County.

The Historic National Road (now U.S. 40) travels through Springfield, and was a contributing factor in Springfield's early development. The original National Road began at Cumberland MD and ended at Springfield, hence our designation as "The town at the end of the road".

Springfield is now the home of a diverse business base - you can find just about anything you would need in Springfield. Yes, we have most of the major chain businesses here, but we also have a large number of "mom & pop" businesses, too.
